FAQ'S

1. How will I know if my child is safe and that everything is secure/ok at camp?

The owner of the camp will be present during all camp sessions. She will be carrying a navigation device that will update information online regarding campers destination and status. This device works regardless of cell phone range and runs using satellite technology. In addition, there will be full first aid kits and fully qualified staff present during all times. Boys and girls will be separated during the evening sleeping times and will be chaperoned throughout the evening. Special procedures will be in effect during all adventure activities and outings. Campers will have to wear PFD's while swimming and will only be swimming when the entire group is swimming. A life guard will be present during all water activities. All parents will receive maps of the camp location to ensure awareness and destination details. There will be two staff and two chaperons present during all camp sessions for a 22 child capacity.

 

2. Why is this camp so expensive compared to day camps?

Alive Adventures is a quality retreat life experience offering a valuable inclusive service. Campers not only receive care but receive opportunity to Grow, be inspired, connect with each other and their own personal dreams. They will learn about survival, being alive, how to create and express, and move their body during fun exciting adventurous activities. They get to open up their minds, grow, and play in their natural environment. This camp is not comparable to a day camp or any other overnight camps in Newfoundland. Your child will receive the full value.

 

3. Is this camp religious or tribal?

Alive Adventures is an equal non-competitive, inclusive environment for people from all backgrounds. There will be no religious teachings, offerings and will not be tribal in nature. Your child will be given opportunity of choice to express, learn, and experience in their won chosen way. The drumming activities will be fun, team oriented, and give them a chance to beat and express. The yoga activities will give them a chance to quiet their minds, outstretch themselves, and connect.

 

4. What kind of food is there at camp?

Colorful, healthy, nutrition, and tasty! Alive adventures promises to deliver healthy non-processed home made yummy food. We strive to offer the best quality and cater to all children's dietary needs/restrictions. Options will be provided and each day will include; Breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, dessert.

 

5. My child is over weight and might not be able to survive the hike/camp section?

The camp is designed to cater to all fitness/activity levels. All children will work together as a team to complete all missions. Your child will be supported, encouraged, and gain a new resilience from this experience.

 

6. What if it's Raining or Bad Weather?

Camp will go ahead no matter what. If the weather is calling for thunder/lightening during one of the evenings we will switch the days to stay in the cabin on the bad night and camp on the goodnight. If it is raining bad and are due to do team initiatives/yoga/drumming we will head to the local community center space next door to deliver an indoor session until the weather clears up. We will be outside as much as possible and all campers will be prepared with appropriate gear.

 

7. What if my child is not musical or creative?

Alive Adventures & Discovery Camp offers a dynamic program with elements for all children. There is physical adventurous components, relaxation and reflection components, outdoor survival components, art and creative components, and expressive musical component. Each child will feel success and growth during their camp experience and will find something to unleash their potential and personal skills.

 

8. What if my child has an accident or needs medical attention?

If your child experiences an accident or needs medical attention the Alive Adventures staff will notify you as soon as possible and will notify the nearest medical emergency services to bring your child to the nearest hospital or place of care. If your child has a minor incident then the staff of Alive Adventures will deliver qualified first aid to support, and treat your child. You will be notified immediately.

 

9. My child has never been away from home and he/she might get homesick or scared?

It is normal for children to miss home and to want to be with their familiar care givers and in the familiar environment. In order to promote independence, growth, and confidence children need these away from home, out of the comfort zone experiences. Alive Adventures ensures to nurture children who are feeling this way and to do whatever is necessary to alleviate these thoughts/feelings and to promote positive secure environments and programs for young children. If your child is going through an extreme case of home-sickness and it is physically/emotionally harming them we ensure to notify you immediately.

 

10. How do I Register/Save my spot?

If you have inquiries please e-mail or call Katie Power the owner at 764.1756, kpower@aliveadventures.ca . If you want to reserve your camping spot please fill in the online registration form and send 50% of the fees via mail or pay pal. The remaining fees are due before July 1, 2011. If the camp is full your child will be put on the waiting list and will be contacted when there is an opening. If you cannot afford the full fees please send your information and the amount you can afford to kpower@aliveadventrues.ca.
