Katie Power,
Owner/Director Alive Adventures & Discovery Camp
Katie is an Inspirational Leader, Yoga Teacher, Kinesiologist, Adventure Coach, and Creative Musician who was raised in a small fishing community in Trinity Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador. This exposed Katie to the beautiful natural environment and open space to explore; wooded paths, swim in waterfalls and brooks, and spend most of her days in the great outdoors. Later at the age of five she moved to St. John's with her mom and three siblings to attend School in St. John's to give her and her family a larger opportunity for education and employment.
Growing up Katie was involved in all school sports, choir, the local YMCA, employed as a summer camp counselor, Lifeguard, winning the 2002 miss teen fitness in the Miss Teen Newfoundland Pageant, the Outdoors' Club in high school, and many other avenues of community, adventure, music, and creativity. Katie always dreamed big and reached up beyond her limits. Becoming a leader at a very young age she portrayed positivity, inspiration, and persistent determination.
Finishing High School Katie attended Dalhousie University where she pursued a Bsc. Kinesiology degree and worked as a leader at the local YMCA, she also created a program in Halifax called "Girls Alive" for disadvantaged youth to give teenage youth an opportunity to get active and stay healthy. Upon the completion of her degree she immediately flew to Thailand where she did a Tesol Course and taught English to Kindergarten and grade one kids. In the more recent years Katie had been employed locally as a fitness and wellness coach and a Kinesiologist at Proactive Phyiotherapy. She inspired, supported, and instructed clients for eight years in a wellness setting. A major turn of events occurred upon the realization of her dream to open "Alive Adventure & Discovery Camp". This realization shifted her plans from Physiotherapy and Personal training to Outdoor Education, Yoga, and Music. Katie began pursuing her Yoga Career with the Lotus Center and she returned back to the camping and outdoor adventure world. During this time she worked at Stan Cooks Sea Kayaking, Scott Walking hiking guiding, and taught Yoga in local Elementary Schools and centers. She most recently returned home from a one year journey to Australia working as an outdoor Education at Inter-Action Outdoor education Center in New South Wales, Australia. Katie has been actively pursuing her dreams since the day she was born, always leading the way for others and reaching for the stars. Her personal mission is to inspire young people in Newfoundland and Labrador to realize and follow their own dreams, run and play in their natural world, be community, outstretch themselves beyond their personal limits, and gain resilience to never give up.
