Boy to Man ~ Mentoring Programs

YES! and ALIVE was created by a group of men for the specific purpose of mentoring young boys 9 – 18 years of age through their passage into manhood. We believe that it is the responsibility of the adults and elders in our community to lead our youth through their transition from ‘Boy to Man’ As adults, parents, guides and mentors, it is up to us to teach our young ones communication,

trust, integrity, honor, mission, purpose and passion so they may lead themselves into a happy and successful adult lives. Our consistent mentoring will assist them through childhood, puberty and into their next phase of life…adulthood. 

 

The PURPOSE of WILD Boys, COYOTE Mentoring and BOYS in the FIRE ~ BUFFALO Wisdom is to:

  • Expand the youths' awareness of the natural world around them

  • Create a peer group that by nature challenges each youth to learn life’s lessons in a good way

  • Provide adult mentoring and positive role models on a consistent bi-monthly basis

  • Create an environment that will help the youth to discover and celebrate “who he really is”

  • Offer the youth teachings, tools and experiences that will inspire him to his full potential.

The PURPOSE of the Family Component and Involvement of the mentoring programs:

  • To create Parenting Education and Family Experiences that will re-connect the union of the family

  • To create Empowerment Teachings from experience based activities and family empowerment lessons will enhance the youth/families learning

  • To Re-Unite the Family Unit and create a common Family Mission Statement and Family Unity

Curriculum:

  • Teachings from the Way of the Peaceful Warrior, the Alchemist, Hatchet, Warriors of the Light, the 4 Agreements, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens & Families from Dr. Steven Covey, Thundering Years, the Wonder of Boys, Life Strategies for Teens and other Empowerment models

  • Experiential Education, Wilderness Therapy Models, Adventure Education, Teambuilding Activities, Communication Structure

Activities:

  • Fort Building, Cave Exploring, Hiking, Mountain Biking, Whitewater Rafting, Rock Climbing, Snow Tubing

  • Experiences from the Thundering Years, Reviving the Wonder and Experiential Game models

  • Wilderness Survival Skills, Outdoor Adventures, Fort Building, Capture the Flag, Boise River Float

  • Seasonal Sweat Lodge, experiencing the Medicine Wheel and Natural Hot Springs

  • Mountain Boarding, Stilt Walking, Magic Show, Drumming, Crafting, Game/Movie Nights, Bird Watching, Music and … ??? …

The MONTHLY Mentoring Program:

  • Every month, “rain-or-shine” the mentoring group will gather for activities and teaching time

  • The youth will take an active roll in deciding which activities that the group will engage in every month

  • The mentors main job is to listen, teach, help, model, accept and love the young ones to inspire them to their fullest ability

  • The mentor will help the youth find and create relationships with other mentors to aspire to their dreams and goals

  • In addition to the “adventure” activities, life-skill lessons will be taught every month

  • At the end of each mentoring day, the parents will be invited for an hour of group parent education and sharing

  • Ever Month there will be an inspirational Movie Night, Games, Pizza Pig-Out and Discussion about the movie

The ‘ALIVE adventure’ Summer Camp:

  • After months of monthly outings, the whole group will attend a Summer Adventure Camp

  • White-water rafting, Backpacking, Camping, Hiking and other Leadership activities will take place

  • A mini - All-Family Workshop will take place at the end of the camping adventure

Additional programs and custom designed activities:

  • One-on-One active counseling, Family Retreats, Family Coaching, Youth Counseling, Family Ropes Course, Mother-Daughter Retreats, Father-Son Adventures, Adventure Birthday Parties, Men of the Fire groups, Sweat Lodge, Fire Walks, Journey to Manhood-Womanhood Seminars, Rite-of-Passage Journeys and Vision Quests are all available and custom designed for your family and individual youth needs.

Additional Pre-cautions:

  • Each activity and movie has been pre-run and evaluated for safety and overall teaching potential

  • Each mentor is required to pass a criminal background check, intensive interview, residence history and drivers license check

Commitment and Fees:

  • Every group grows to the level of the sum of all of its participants … thus you and your family must be committed to this process

  • The monthly mentoring programs are a 10 - month process that is set up in a committed closed circle model

  • Once the youth-family has enrolled, the youth-family agrees to and is expected to participate and pay for the whole program.

  • The start date is September of this year

  • Annual fees range from $400 for the WILD Boys to $700 for the COYOTE Boys and $500 for the Boys in the Fire – Buffalo Wisdom group

  • WILD Boys Summer Camp fees are $375 for the 4 day adventure & the COYOTE Boys Summer Camp fees are $475 for the 6 day adventure

When and Where:

  • WILD BOYS ~ 1nd Sunday of Every Month // COYOTE BOYS ~ the 1st Saturday of Every Month // B I T F - BUFFALO wisdom ~ the 1st Friday evening

  • Boys Groups are to meet at the Boise River at Beaver Dicks Ferry, just east of Shakespeare Fest and Bens Crow Inn – unless otherwise noted

  • Parents meeting to be from 3-4 pm at Bens Crow Inn on consecutive dates

  • Communications will take place via email and occasional telephone calls
